Only 12% Of Americans Think Obama Cut Their Taxes: POLL

What the fuck? I can't believe that number. That is simply unreal and so telling of so many things..W.O.W.

From Huffington Post:

Only 12 percent of the public say that the Obama administration has lowered their taxes since coming to office, despite the fact that the White House's stimulus package cut taxes for 95 percent of Americans, a new opinion survey found.

The rather remarkable number was part of aCBS/New York Times poll released on Friday and provides a somewhat dispiriting window into how the recession has altered political preceptions throughout the country. A tax cut of historic nature, passed by Congress last winter, has yielded few political benefits (and, some economists would argue, few economic ones as well).

In addition, the CBS/NYT poll found that 24 percent of respondents said that their taxes had actually increased under the Obama administration -- which is, again, not true. Fifty-three percent said their taxes stayed the same.

Pressed on these findings, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs largely skirted questions at his Friday press briefing about whether the administration had done a poor job selling its economic agenda to the public. Instead, he argued that the stimulus package had helped individuals in ways they could not tangibly see.

"I'd say [your pollsters] called the wrong people," Gibbs told CBS's Mark Knoller. "I think what happened and one of the things that I think will go through this bipartisan jobs process is state and local aid. If you look at last month's jobs report, the number of state and local government jobs lost was 41,000 out of that monthly jobs report. Because, I think in many cases, and you see now, too, the importance of something like state and local aid because, as bad as state budgets were last year, they're actually worse this year. So I think even as people may or may not have felt that the government failed them, they may have gotten something different from their state and local government in order to make up for a collective budget shortfall among the 50 states in something that exceeded $125 billion. So look, I think that...is it part of the frustration...95 percent of local people saw their taxes cut last year."

"What percent?" Knoller interjected.

"Ninety-five," said Gibbs. "But apparently only 12 percent felt it."

Nancy Elliot Doesn't Like Anal

This is so odd. This New Hampshire State Rep decided it would be a good idea to gross everyone out in trying to make her point against same sex marriage. She graphically details man on man sex (because apparently woman on woman sex isn't gay). I kind of think that anyone older than 50 should not be able to make law. Either that, or this woman needs some anal lovin. Watch this woman's um lovely reasoning for why she believes gays should not get married.

New National Poll of Republicans by Reasearch 2000

This is why I can't take the Republican Party seriously. These numbers are so ridiculous and make me want to move to Canada:

  • 31% want contraceptives outlawed
  • 73% think gay men and women shouldn't be allowed to teach in public school
  • 23% want to secede from US
  • 53% think Sarah Palin is more qualified to be president than Obama.
  • Actually, on the "ACORN stealing 2008 election for Obama" Q, 21% say yes, 55% say "not sure"
  • 63% think Obama is a socialist, only 42% believe he was born in US, 21% think ACORN stole 2008 elections
  • 39% of Republicans want Obama impeached

Spiral Beach 'The Only Really Thing'

Another fun, cute indie rock Canadian band. Female/male vocals. I came across this album after just futzing around online. Their music has been compared to Blondie and The Beach Boys. Huh? I don't see those comparisons much at all, personally. Going in with those expectations, I have to say I was honestly disappointed at first. But something funny happened around the 4th track of the album. I realized I'm kind of liking this band. A lot. I think what I like about them is that their music is so hard to pinpoint. It's derivative but pretty diverse. Some influences I'm hearing are Black Box Recorder, Bow Wow Wow, The Sounds and Metric. But I believe they improve on all of those influences. All in all, it's a very fun album. Give the whole thing a chance.

Check out their fun song 'Domino'.

Dala 'Everyone Is Someone'

In a word: Wow. These two lovely ladies that make up the Canadian band Dala have it all. From the incredible harmonizing, brilliant song crafting and deep heartfelt lyrics, they've got me hooked. This is the album that Nina Gordon has been trying to make for years unsuccessfully. These ladies are in a league of their own, in my opinion. Typically I reserve the category of 'I'm Moving To Canada' on my blog as a reference for ridiculous videos by right wing nutjobs. Today, however, I really mean it. These ladies make me want to move to Canada due to their lovely lyrics about their homeland. This album was released at the end of 2009 but it is easily going into my top 3 albums of 2010 so far alongside Kristina Train's debut and Vampire Weekend's new album. I hope they get picked up for The Lilith Fair this summer.

Check out the video for the adorable single 'Levi Blues' and also my favourite track 'Lonely Girl'. I haven't started streaming songs on this site just yet..but I will..in the meantime I'm using youtube to stream music.

Pat Robertson is Amazing

Wow..What an insightful, logical voice Pat Robertson is..

I mean it all makes so much sense, doesn't it?

"They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal."

It really is so nice of the devil to have freed the Haitians from the French..what a stand up guy..

Equal Rights

Gays should stop spending money on the economy until we are given equal rights..Gay marriage would bring so much revenue & be a huge boost to the US economy. Aside from being prejudice, it's completely shortsighted to deny gay people their civil rights. Retail wouldn't exist without the homos and lezzies.

Hypocrisy

I feel like I need to address something that is really bugging me: Republicans. While hypocrisy is nothing new in politics, I feel as though the situation has gotten disgustingly out of control recently.

The state of the nation is bad right now. Really bad. I don't like the blame game whether it's Democrats blaming Republicans or vice versa. I will say, however, that I think a few Republican dichotomies need to be pointed out:

1. Believing in smaller government while legislating inside people's bedrooms
2. Blaming Bill Clinton for 911 and Obama for the shitty economy while failing to acknowledge that BOTH 911 AND the downfall of the economy occurred on George Bush's watch.
3. Fighting for the 'sanctity' of marriage while having no problem committing adultery and thus failing to hold your their own marriage to the same standard of 'sanctity'.
4. Believing in less spending while taking the US economy from a surplus in 2000 to the biggest deficit in the history of the country.
5. Being attacked by 'Afghanistan' but waging war on Iraq.
6. Believing in 'The American Dream' but conveniently turning a blind eye when manufacturing jobs left the US and headed over to China (and other places).
7. No belief in Universal Healthcare for all..aka: Believing healthcare is a privledge, not a human right.
8. Having no problem calling abortion 'murder' however not believing that women who have abortions should be called 'murderers'. (PS: What is it called when you wage war on abortion clinics and kill innocent people? MURDER)

I could go on and on and on..This country is run by lobbyists, big business and money. Republicans have been elected by (moronic) people to serve the people. How is being a roadblock to EVERY kind of reform considered serving the people?

STOP disagreeing with The President simply because you don't like him and because he is a Democrat. Consider the fact that the small steps Obama is making (ie: healthcare reform, etc) are putting new systems in place that may take a while to work but more importantly are designed to HELP people. Stop LYING that these systems are meant to HURT people.

Stop LYING about communism and socialism. (see McCarthyism)

I'm someone that is profoundly affected by many of the partisan wars that are being waged by Republicans. I am a gay male who is not allowed to marry and does not have health insurance. My father HAD health insurance and it nearly bankrupted my family a few years ago when he died.

I'm someone that just wants to live my life and stop having people tell me how to live it. For a group of people that believe in 'smaller government', Republicans sure have a lot to say about two basic human rights I should be afforded: The right to marry and the right to healthcare.

Democrats don't do everything right but at least they are coming up with ideas of how to make our lives better..Republicans just want the status quo and, more importantly, just want to see Obama fail.

One way we can all try and take our country back is to take OUR money OUT of the big banks and begin to support community banks. You want less government? Then lets begin to bring us back to a society of smaller businesses and smaller companies once again.

Religious Nonsense

Ok..wow..this is my exact problem with faith..why is one faith deemed better than the other? Religion makes no sense when you start trying to compare yours to someone else's..it defeats the whole purpose..Brit Hume is a turd just like the rest of these 'my religion is better than yours' whackjobs. Watch the video on the website to see what I mean..
